Manny won't be Manny for the Red Sox anymore.
Manny Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers in a three-team deadline-beating blockbuster Thursday, sending the disgruntled future Hall-of-Famer out of Boston right as the pennant race starts to heat up.
The Red Sox will receive Pirates outfielder Jason Bay in the deal, while Pittsburgh gets third baseman Andy LaRoche and Class-A right-hander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers and outfielder Brandon Moss and reliever Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.
The Red Sox will pay all of the approximately $7 million remaining on Ramirez's contract.
Ramirez should provide a major boost to the Dodgers' offense, but his arrival will add to the crowd in the Dodgers' outfield, which already includes Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Juan Pierre and Andruw Jones.
Moss, Hansen and LaRoche all have played in the majors. Morris, 21, was the Dodgers' first-round pick in 2006.
The deal could significantly tilt the balance of power toward the Dodgers in the hotly contested NL West race. The Dodgers began the day one game behind the Diamondbacks, whose only pre-deadline addition was reliever Jon Rauch.
For the Red Sox, meanwhile, the addition of Bay amounts to a coup, considering their need to replace Ramirez's offense. Bay, who turns 30 on Sept. 20, is six years younger than Ramirez, and his .894 on-base/slugging percentage is nearly as high as Ramirez's .927 mark this season.
The Red Sox also will retain Bay through next season at an affordable salary of $7.5 million. After that, Bay becomes eligible for free agency.

The Dark Knight has broken yet another box office record after becoming the fastest-ever film to make more than $400 million (£204 million).
The Batman Begins sequel took only 18 days to reach the landmark, less than half the time taken by the previous record holder Shrek 3.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film now looks likely to become the second highest-grossing film ever in the US by overtaking Star Wars' $460 million in domestic earnings.
However, box office tracking company Media by Numbers said it was unlikely The Dark Knight would break the $601m (£307m) barrier set in the US by James Cameron's Titanic in 1997.
Having topped the US box office for three weeks thus far, The Dark Knight has just crowned its second week at the top of the UK and Ireland box office, with almost £50 million in takings.
Last week, the new Batman film celebrated passing the $300 million (£151 million) mark faster than any other film in history, reaching the milestone just ten days after being released.
The previous record had been held by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which took 16 days.
Christopher Nolan's film has already broken records for midnight preview screenings, the highest non-holiday Monday and Tuesday grosses of all time, the best opening weekend in the US, and reaching $200 million (£100 million) in five days, three days faster than the Pirates sequel.

June 28, 2008 - Live blogging Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational 2008.
7:27 -- More screens and video have been uploaded since the last update. For a less scatterbrained layout of all that's gone live, head over to our Diablo III information center. Now to find more coffee...
2:40 -- Live updates from the Diablo 3 gameplay panel can be found here.
2:28 -- Sitting in the main hall again, waiting for a Diablo 3 design panel to start up.
2:14 -- A few new videos just went live. Also, Blizzard put out an FAQ that covers all the basics of Diablo 3 which you can see here.
1:48 -- IGN host Jessica Chobot will be updating her blog with her own impressions.
1:42 -- Just got out of an interview with Blizzard executive vice-president of game design Rob Pardo. He says Diablo III was in development way back when Blizzard North was still around. The game will still feature PvP online and nightmare modes. Player limits online have yet to be set. As of right now, Blizzard won't reveal any other character classes beyond the barbarian and the witch doctor. Pardo told me the number of total classes in D3 will be similar to D2's original release. Also, in Diablo 3 diablo makes a return (obviously) and takes place after the events of D2. Expect the full interview in the near future.
